Description of Zirconium 705 Tube / Zirconium Alloy Pipe
Zirconium 705 tube is a high-performance zirconium–niobium alloy pipe known for its exceptional corrosion resistance, high melting point, superior mechanical strength, and excellent stability in extreme environments. As a rare metal material, Zirconium 705 is widely used in demanding industries such as aerospace, nuclear energy, chemical processing, and marine engineering.
Zirconium alloys exhibit a melting point of approximately 1800°C, compared to ~1600°C for titanium, while zirconium dioxide reaches an impressive 2700°C. These properties make Zirconium 705 tubes ideal for applications involving high temperatures, aggressive chemicals, and long-term structural reliability.
Zirconium 705 seamless pipes are commonly used in heat exchangers, condensers, pressure vessels, and nuclear fuel cladding, due to their superior resistance to corrosion, especially against strong acids and alkalis. Their excellent biocompatibility also allows their use in medical and dental applications.

Zr-1 zirconium tubes for heat exchangers must undergo a flaring test using a 60° tapered tool. After a 15% inner diameter expansion, the sample must show no cracking at the end.
All tubes must be inspected by ultrasonic flaw detection. Acceptance criteria for standard U-shaped defects must comply with GB/T 12969.1.
Recrystallised and annealed ZR1 tubes must have an average grain size no coarser than Grade 7, as specified in GB/T 6394-2002.
